Everything your velvet trophy needs between the field and the taxidermist.
Velvet starts breaking down the moment an animal hits the ground, and a cape that isn't treated can slip hair before it ever reaches the taxidermist. The Velvet & Cape Kit protects both. It preserves velvet, stops hair slippage on a fresh cape, and cleans up the blood.
What's in the Kit
- VelvaLok (12oz): The one and only velvet antler preservative on the market that sets, dries and preserves natural velvet while getting rid of bugs. It pulls the moisture out from between the velvet and the antler, locking the velvet in place in 72 hours. One 12oz bottle treats about 180 inches of linear antler, which is enough for a deer rack.
- HideLok (12oz): The only spray-on formula made to protect a freshly harvested hide before tanning. It stops hair slippage, bug infestation and decomposition by preventing bacterial growth.
- StainSkrub (8oz): An enzymatic blood remover for hides, packs, clothing and game bags. It breaks down blood and other organic stains so they rinse right out.
How It Works
- Preserve the velvet: If frozen, make sure the antlers are fully thawed and dry. Hold the sprayer no more than 1 inch away and saturate every velvet surface. Keep the antlers upright and pointed skyward, ideally in direct sunlight at 80°F or warmer. Let it dry for 72 hours.
- Protect the cape: Apply as soon as possible after harvest. The hide should be fully thawed and dry. Lay it hair side down, remove excess meat and fat, and use a towel to dry. Apply HideLok generously to every hide surface, including the inside of the ears, the nose and around the lips.
- Clean up the blood: Spray StainSkrub on bloodstained gear, clothing or game bags, let it sit 20 minutes, massage it in, and rinse. On a cape, use it before tanning by wiping the hide with a clean cloth after applying.
